The Imperial Klingon Marines is the largest ground force unit of the Klingon Empire. In any operation, the philosophy of the Klingon Marines is to take their objective as quickly as possible. In the olden days, to accomplish that, they relied heavily on the tactic of beaming directly onto their objectives. Even though losses may be heavy because the enemy is jamming signals or shielding, the Klingon Marines feel that these losses are acceptable in carrying out their task. Most Klingon soldiers were not versed in tactics, but were trained to follow orders to the letter. This is not to say that the average Klingon soldier is incapable of independent action, but that his training did not encourage him to do so. This force was nicknamed the "Icicle Corps" by some because these units were kept in cryogenic suspension until a time arises when they were needed. Imperial Marines of today are noted for being able to think fast and react just as fast. Their tactics today include Beaming directly to or near the objective, full planetary assaults using shuttles and troop landing ships. Once they have seized the objective, the Klingons beam or fly in portable shield generators in order to keep what they have won. Not many have felt the full-born assault of the Marines and lived to tell the tale.
